Visually Inspiring Day Trips in Nova Scotia (no.2)

From a caterpillar's point of view. Uniacke Estate Museum Park in Mt. Uniacke. It is one of the most beautiful Heritage sites in Nova Scotia. The mansion always reminds me of the movie ‘Going With The Wind’. From the Museum Brochure: “Imagine: It’s 1820. Your visiting this grand new country house and its parkland. Your host is Richard John Uniacke, an Irishman. A prominent citizen and Attorney General, he is a man whose fortune was made in Nova Scotia. His estate is created in the English style of his youth.” The Estate has 7 walking trails that bring you to various interesting sites in the park: Wetlands, Drumlin Field, Uniacke Lake/Lake Martha, and more. The trails lead you along the lake or through beautiful forests with old trees. Also take a walk inside the house and hear the stories about the ghosts that still live there. Period costumes, furniture and the original kitchen (now functioning as a tearoom) invite to explore the past. After your explorations take a ...

Caterpillar

I’m sitting in the wonderful Uniacke Estate Museum Park (Mt. Uniacke, NS) and enjoy the warm breeze and the shade of the old trees to write my blog today. I have just started when a movement on my keyboard catches my eye. A caterpillar making its way up the keys, determined to reach the edge of the keyboard. I’m fascinated. I look at it closely and if it wouldn’t move, I wouldn’t know where the head is. Both sides look quite similar and when it lifts the tail, it seems like two eyes starring at me in defense. Again I admire nature’s ability to provide camoflash for its smallest critters.

Visually Inspiring Day Trips in Nova Scotia

Peggy's Cove, NS photo by Jacqueline Steudler July 31, 2012 Although I wouldn’t call myself a landscape painter I’m still very much inspired by the beauty of   Nova Scotia’s land and seascape. If you visit Nova Scotia you don’t want to miss Peggy’s Cove. Although it has been visited by many and millions of images have been taken by amateur and professional photographers, and the lighthouse, fisher boats, and village have been painted on canvas thousand of times, this seascape still fascinates me. It is a place that speaks to me, the colours of the rocks, the people walking them, the lighthouse reflected in water puddles, the colours of the buoys, the fisher nets, lobster traps, the red schoolhouse, and the village people (31 of them living there all year round). It is a place for contemplation, wind blown hair, and new insights. It doesn’t matter what time of the day or even what the season, Peggy’s Cove is worth to visit and to linger.

Waxing Moon

moon in our backyard Moon has brought new inspiration. Want to pursue it further in my paintings. Who knows where it will lead me, would gladly go where no one has gone before. (smile)

Moon is on the rise

work in progress by Jacqueline Steudler Last night the moon was just hanging over the horizon. The darkness here (no light pollution) is stunning. It is an inspiring waxing moon.

Eagles

Nothing to do with the project and still to do with it. Inspiration in the air and on the ground. Viewing the Eagles fly by, eat and sit. Snow, cold feet and a camera. Loved it. More about the Eagle Watch you will find here : http://www.eaglens.ca/

Collecting Inspiration

This morning I collected this observations. I will not add any feelings or emotions to it. I try to be free of judgment today. Was not always easy writing this list. - first frost on cars - cold, crisp air on my skin - sun, golden above - fog in the distance - car pulls out of the driveway and leaves a cloud of fumes in the air - power company cutting trees - walk on the street - cars passing - school bus stops for me - smile and nods from the school bus students - community park deserted - fog over lake - calmness surrounding stones in the water - fog moving up and down - no horizon yet - reflection of trees comes and goes - only sound the shutter of my camera and some birds in the distance - blue sky above the fog - horizon shows itself and disappears - birches and alders lining the path - light through branches It is good to look, hear and take in what is.
